Plagiarism Blog #3

Plagiarism is an extremely tough subject to go about. When looking through all the nooks and crannies, one simple misuse of quotation marks or forgetting one citation can cause an entire piece to be plagiarized. Plagiarism also relates to other genres as well such as, inventions. Inventions are protected with patents, the same way other forms of materials or protected with copy writes. Work is not allowed to be reused without properly crediting the original source. Growing up I have been made aware of plagiarism and different forms but not ever guided with techniques for assurance of avoidance. With the Brief McGraw-Hill Handbook I have discovered strategies to use ensure plagiarism will not happen. The first step was to brainstorm your own thoughts before researching sources so record can be kept. Another major point was to write down your own thoughts in one color and write down information found in a different color so there will be no confusion what actually came from you and what was discovered. When note-taking, it's important to add quotations around what is being directly from the source and the source it is coming from so it won't be later forgotten. While paraphrasing it is also important to not get too sucked in as your thoughts and words can easily change into what is coming directly from the source. Referencing and citing at the end is the most important part to make sure plagiarism does not take place.
